Kintsugi Spirit
FROM FAULT LINES TO LINES OF STRENGTH,

KINTSUGI, THE ART OF RESILIENCE...

"Both decorative and spiritual, the ancestral art of Kintsugi repairs objects (and spirits) while sublimating them with “urushi*”, a natural element from wood, which will then be powdered with gold. The technique aims to highlight cracks by making them aesthetic, instead of masking them.

Appearing in Japan in the 16th century, Kintsugi is the art of repairing ceramics, porcelain and earthenware by embellishing them. "Kin" means "gold" and "tsugi," "join" in Japanese. Here, there is no question of throwing a broken pottery, much less concealing the cracks of his old crockery. On the contrary, the philosophy of Kintsugi enhances the object by using its flaws, according to the principle of Wabi-Sabi.

Kintsugi art is thus the perfect metaphor for resilience, as a form of art therapy that restores not only objects, but also our interiority to transcend our trials. Like a kintsugi, our trials can transform us and we can even become more beautiful, stronger, and more precious... to have been broken!
